Cedar House on Sound B&B

Converted-barn bed and breakfast in Mattituck with a private vineyard, herb garden, and inventive locally-sourced breakfasts.

Cedar House on Sound is a four-room B&B on a working hobby vineyard near the Long Island Sound. The owners run a contemporary-rustic property with a vineyard lounge, walking trails, and a daily multi-course breakfast that uses produce from the on-site garden. They'll help with winery itineraries and reservations. One of my favorite quiet stays on the North Fork — we did two nights here for our anniversary and never wanted to leave the property. Breakfast is a genuine event: three courses, hosts sit and chat about the wine trail, and they'll pull a bottle from their own vines if you ask. The vineyard lounge is set up for a self-poured glass in the late afternoon. Request the largest room if it's a special-occasion trip. Not a fit for children or groups; if that's your setup, book Jedediah Hawkins instead.
