Jedediah Hawkins Inn

Restored 19th-century mansion in Jamesport with manicured gardens, an on-site farm-to-table restaurant, and craft cocktails.

Built in 1863 and lovingly restored, Jedediah Hawkins Inn is the most historically intact stay on the North Fork. Six guest rooms feature original woodwork, clawfoot tubs, and antique furnishings; the on-site restaurant draws locals from across the East End. The setting — surrounded by working farms — is the quietest of the wine-country bases. We use Jedediah for anniversary weekends and it never disappoints. Ask for the Tower Suite — the walk up the spiral stair is worth it. Dinner in the on-site restaurant is a proper occasion; book it when you book the room because the kitchen fills with locals by 7pm on weekends. Breakfast is included and served in the sunroom overlooking the gardens. The property is a genuinely quiet base — no highway noise, no Main Street bustle — so if you want to walk to bars and shops, book Hotel Moraine or Harborfront Inn instead. Paumanok is six minutes away.

History

The house was built in 1863 by Jedediah Hawkins, a sea captain turned fisherman, in the Italianate style with a belvedere. It sat vacant and boarded up from the 1980s and was slated for demolition in 2004 before being purchased and restored, reopening as an inn in September 2005. It's listed on the National Register of Historic Places and received a 2008 New York State Preservation Award.

Rooms

The Belvedere Suite is described on the inn's own site as its most romantic and spacious room, positioned for proposals, honeymoons and anniversaries; add-on packages for it include a complimentary bottle of champagne and a plate of treats.

A Midweek Escape package (Sunday–Thursday, minimum two nights) includes full breakfast, complimentary tastings at partner vineyards, and a $100 dining credit — priced by calling the inn directly rather than posted online. A 50% deposit is taken at booking for all room reservations.
