Townsend Manor Inn

Historic waterfront inn and marina on Stirling Basin with an outdoor pool, on-site restaurant and old-fashioned North Fork hospitality.

Townsend Manor Inn is a charming, family-run waterfront property anchored by an 1835 Greek Revival manor house, with motel-style rooms and cottages spread across the grounds. The marina has guest boat slips, the outdoor pool overlooks the water, and the on-site restaurant is a longtime local favorite. Downtown Greenport is a five-minute drive or a pleasant walk along the harbor.

History

The land was purchased by Silas Webb in 1820 as part of a larger real-estate venture on Stirling Basin. In 1835, whaling captain George Cogswell built the manor house that is now the inn; Cogswell left for California during the Gold Rush in 1849, and the residence changed hands several times over the following decades before eventually taking the Townsend name and being converted into an inn. 1

Layout

The property combines the original 1835 Greek Revival manor house with additional motel-style buildings and cottages spread across the grounds, plus a working marina on Stirling Basin with guest boat slips. The inn's own navigation separates Hotel, Marina, Restaurant & Catering, and History as distinct sections of the operation, reflecting how the business is actually organized. 2

Marina

Boaters can dock at the inn's marina and walk directly up to the hotel and pool, a detail the property markets as a way to combine a boating trip on Peconic Bay with a land stay; the marina has its own dedicated page and staff separate from hotel front-desk operations. 2

Location

The inn sits at the edge of Greenport village on Stirling Basin, close enough to walk into the Main Street/Front Street commercial core but set back from the busiest blocks, which the property's own marketing frames as offering both walkability and quiet. 2
