How Much Does a Long Island Winery Day Actually Cost?
A line-item budget for a Long Island wine day, from a $150 solo afternoon to a $1,200-per-couple peak-season weekend. Here is exactly where the money goes.
How Much Does a Long Island Winery Day Actually Cost?
The honest answer is "anywhere from $100 to $1,200 a person, depending on the trip." That range is real and the variables — solo or with a group, day trip or overnight, summer or off-season, drive yourself or hire a tour — make a huge difference. Here is the line-by-line budget broken down for the four most common trip types.
The line items
Every Long Island wine day has the same handful of cost categories. The averages I am quoting are 2026 prices in season.
- Tasting fees: $30–$75 per person per estate.
- Lunch: $20–$45 per person at a casual room, $60–$120 at a destination restaurant.
- Dinner: $50–$150 per person at North Fork sit-down rooms.
- Bottles purchased: $25–$95 per bottle at the cellar door; most visitors leave each estate with one.
- Transportation: $0 (designated driver), $40–$80 (rideshare for the day across three stops), $400–$900 (private wine tour from NYC for the day).
- Hotel: $200–$700 per night in season, $120–$300 off-season. See hotels near North Fork wineries.
- Tips: 18–20% on seated tastings, food, and tour drivers.
Scenario 1: Solo day trip from NYC, drive yourself
You drive out from the city, do three tastings, eat lunch, drive home.
- Gas / tolls round trip: $40
- Three tasting fees at $35 each: $105
- Tasting tips at 20%: $21
- Lunch at Love Lane Kitchen: $30
- One bottle taken home: $35
- Total: $231
If you skip the bottle: $196. If you splurge on the reserve flight at one estate ($65 instead of $35): about $260.
Scenario 2: Couples weekend, two nights in Greenport
You drive out Friday afternoon, three tastings Saturday, two Sunday, drive home Sunday late afternoon.
Per couple: - Gas / tolls: $50 - Hotel two nights in Greenport in season: $900 (mid-tier boutique) - Five tastings at $35 each x 2 people: $350 - Tasting tips: $70 - Friday dinner at Noah's: $180 - Saturday lunch at Love Lane Kitchen: $70 - Saturday dinner at North Fork Table & Inn (no pairing): $260 - Sunday lunch at a winery: $80 - Three bottles taken home (one per major estate): $150 - Total: ~$2,110 / $1,055 per person
Off-season (April or November), the same trip drops to roughly $1,400 per couple because hotels are half the in-season rate.
Scenario 3: Group of four, hired wine tour from NYC
You book a private SUV tour with a driver, four people, day trip from Manhattan.
- Private tour SUV for the day (includes pickup, three winery stops, driver): $900 total
- Driver tip (20%): $180
- Three tasting fees at $35 x 4 people: $420
- Tasting tips: $84
- Lunch on the trail x 4: $160
- Bottles, two per couple: $300
- Total: ~$2,044 / $511 per person
The math improves significantly with six people. See Long Island wine tours from NYC.
Scenario 4: The all-out anniversary weekend
Three nights at a top hotel, six tastings, reserve flights, the best restaurants, a private cellar tour.
Per couple, in season: - Hotel three nights at Sound View or Menhaden: $2,400 - Six tastings, mix of standard and reserve flights x 2: $700 - Tasting tips: $140 - Dinners (Noah's, North Fork Table & Inn with pairing, Bell and Anchor): $1,400 - Lunches: $300 - Private cellar tour at one estate: $300 - Bottles purchased (one case): $700 - Wine tour driver for two of the days: $1,200 - Total: ~$7,140 / $3,570 per person
This is the high end and most couples are nowhere near it. The point is to show what the ceiling looks like when you book the best of everything.
What you can skip without affecting the experience
If you are budget-conscious, here is where to cut without losing the trip:
- Stay off-season. November through April hotel prices drop 40–60%. The wines are actually pouring well — many estates open library bottles in winter that they will not in July.
- Drive yourself or rideshare rather than booking a private tour. A four-stop North Fork day on rideshare is roughly $60–$90 total.
- Eat one big dinner and keep lunches casual. Love Lane Kitchen, Lombardi's Love Lane Market, the Greenport food trucks at the IPA — all great and a third of the cost of a destination dinner.
- Buy one bottle per estate, not three. The single bottle is the meaningful purchase; the case run is what blows the budget.
Where it is worth spending
- The reserve flight at one estate — usually a $20–$30 upgrade for access to library wines and the top tier of the cellar. Often the best wine value of the trip.
- One destination dinner. North Fork Table & Inn or Noah's, with a half bottle of something local. Worth every dollar.
- Tip the pourer. A 20% tip on a $35 flight is $7. It is the difference between a transactional pour and a real conversation about the wine.
Free or near-free experiences
- Vineyard walks at Macari, Wölffer (during certain hours), Kontokosta — often included with a tasting or free to roam if you call ahead.
- Harvest watching in mid-September to mid-October — many crush pads are open to walk by.
- Beach time at Orient Beach State Park (free with state parks pass), New Suffolk, Truman Beach — none cost a dollar.
- Greenport waterfront at sunset — free and one of the best evenings on the East End.
My honest budget recommendation
For a first-time couples weekend, plan on roughly $1,000–$1,100 per person all-in for two nights in Greenport in shoulder season (May/June, late September, October). That covers a mid-tier hotel, five tastings, two real dinners and three bottles to take home. Anything less and you are cutting corners that affect the trip; anything more is upgrading rooms or restaurants past the threshold where the spend changes the experience.
If you are tighter, do a one-night weekday trip in April or November for roughly $400 per person all-in. The wines are arguably better in winter and the rooms are empty.
