The Frisky Oyster
Long-running Greenport date-night restaurant — local oysters, seasonal seafood and one of the deepest North Fork wine lists in the village.
Open since 2002, The Frisky Oyster is the most established fine-dining room in downtown Greenport. The menu leans seafood-forward — Peconic Bay scallops, locally-shucked oysters, whole-roasted fish — with a dedicated North Fork wine section. Tucked into a small Front Street storefront, reservations are essential on weekends. My standing order on our last visit (fall 2025): a dozen Peconic Golds to start, the seared scallops with corn succotash, and whatever whole fish the kitchen ran that night. We paired it with a Macari Sette Sparkling followed by a bottle of Bedell Musée — the wine list makes swapping between local producers easy, and the servers actually know the vintages. Book the 5:30 or 8:30 seating on weekends; the middle slot fills a month out. If you're staying at Harborfront Inn or Hotel Moraine, walk over — parking on Front Street is brutal in July.

Hours and getting a table
The Frisky Oyster keeps a tighter schedule than most Greenport dinner spots: Wednesday through Sunday only, opening at 5pm and running to 10pm on Wednesday/Thursday/Sunday and 11pm on Friday/Saturday. It's closed Monday and Tuesday year-round. 1
How the kitchen describes itself
The restaurant's own description is spare: "imaginative cuisine in a sophisticated atmosphere," with a menu "updated daily to showcase the most exceptional, local ingredients" and local and international wine lists chosen to match it. 1 That daily-changing approach is the reason the menu isn't posted with fixed prices — it's rebuilt around what's available rather than a static seasonal card.
Booking ahead
The restaurant takes reservations directly through its own site rather than a third-party platform, alongside gift cards and a small retail store — worth checking before assuming walk-in service on a summer weekend given the short, four-day operating week.
