Sparkling & Rosé: A Lighter North Fork Day

Built for a 90°F July Saturday when the last thing you want is a tannic Cabernet flight at 2:00 PM. Three wineries, all bubbles or dry rosé, with long lunch breaks and a Greenport waterfront finish.

11:00 AM · Sparkling Pointe (Southold)

Start with the only producer in the region dedicated entirely to méthode champenoise. The Brut opens; the Brut Rosé and Topaz Imperial follow. Take a glass into the gardens.

12:30 PM · Lunch in Southold or Cutchogue

North Fork oysters, a chilled seafood tower, or a simple farm-stand picnic. Allow 90 minutes.

2:30 PM · Croteaux Vineyards (Southold)

The hidden-garden tasting room is the most photographed spot on the East End for a reason. Order the side-by-side flight of single-Merlot-clone rosés — 181, 314, 3 — to taste how clone alone shifts the wine.

4:00 PM · Kontokosta Winery (Greenport)

The only true waterfront winery on the North Fork. The Orient Méthode Champenoise sparkling closes the day, with views across the Long Island Sound. Stay for sunset.

6:30 PM · Dinner in Greenport

Walk the waterfront, eat dockside, then catch the LIRR back from Greenport station — no driving required.

Pro tips

- Pace: Three stops, not five. Bubbles dehydrate fast in heat — match every glass with water.

- Outfit: Garden seating, gravel paths, full sun. Hat, sunscreen, flat shoes.

- Shipping: Sparkling does not love a hot trunk. Buy at the last stop or arrange winery shipping.
