Chronicle Wines

Discover Chronicle Wines, where every bottle holds a story at this dynamic, women-led tasting room on the North Fork of Long Island.

Founded by veteran winemakers Alie Shaper and Robin Epperson-McCarthy, Chronicle Wines is a women-led tasting room in Peconic that pours five distinct chapters rather than a single label: Brooklyn Oenology (Shaper's pioneering urban project), Saltbird Cellars (Epperson-McCarthy's terroir-driven North Fork bottlings), As If Wines, Haywater Cove, and the canned CANette line. The portfolio leans into lesser-seen New York varieties and natural winemaking, with skin-contact whites, pét-nats, and unfiltered reds rotating through the seasonal menu. The intimate, art-filled tasting room is one of the most thoughtful stops on Peconic Lane and routinely earns end-of-year nods from regional press.

Meet the winemakers

Chronicle was founded by Alie Shaper and Robin Epperson-McCarthy. Shaper, raised on Long Island, trained in winemaking at Premium Wine Group on the North Fork after earning her WSET Advanced Certificate, founded the Brooklyn Oenology (BOE) label and tasting room in Williamsburg in 2006, and later launched the As If Wines and Haywater Cove labels after relocating to Long Island wine country in 2014; she also became winemaker for Croteaux Vineyards in 2015. Epperson-McCarthy, a North Fork native, worked as lab director for Premium Wine Group across harvests in California, New Zealand, Tasmania, and Australia, served as assistant winemaker at Martha Clara Vineyards and as senior sommelier at Roanoke Vineyards, founded her own Saltbird Cellars label in 2014, and co-founded the nonprofit North Fork Wine Trail. 2

From Brooklyn tasting room to shared label

The two winemakers joined forces in 2017 to open a shared North Fork tasting room, then formally launched the combined Chronicle Wines brand in 2019 to bind their individual wine labels, the tasting room, and community events together under one roof. Chronicle later developed CANette, a line of canned, dry spritzers made with local grapes and natural flavors. 2
