Coffee Pot Cellars
Named after the distinctively-shaped lighthouse that guides ships passing Orient Point, Coffee Pot Cellars has become a beacon of quality on the North Fork wine trail.
Coffee Pot Cellars takes its name from the squat, distinctively-shaped lighthouse that has guided ships past Orient Point since 1899 — an apt symbol for a tiny, quality-first operation that has become one of the most decorated cellars on the North Fork. Founded in 2008 by Laura Klahre and veteran winemaker Adam Suprenant (who also makes wine for Osprey's Dominion), the project sources from carefully chosen vineyard blocks rather than farming its own estate, which lets Suprenant chase the best fruit for each varietal each vintage. He has been named Best New York Producer of Merlot, Chardonnay and Rosé multiple times, earned a Top 100 Wines of the Year listing from Wine Enthusiast in 2021, and pulled "remarkable wine" praise from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. The tasting porch is small, dog-friendly, and shares space with Klahre's Blossom Meadow honey operation, so flights often pair with local honey and beeswax candles — a quintessentially North Fork stop.
Merlot, Chardonnay, Rosé
Adam Suprenant is one of the quietest winemakers on the East End and one of the best. Buy whatever Merlot is currently being poured, and grab a jar of Laura's honey on your way out — they're not a tasting-room afterthought, they're the reason locals keep coming back.
Tasting room location and hours
Coffee Pot Cellars' tasting room is at 31855 Main Road, Cutchogue, and is currently open Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday, 11am–6pm. Walk-ins are welcome; reservations are recommended for groups of six or more and can be booked by calling (631) 765-8929. 1
Meeting the winemaker
The winery hosts a "Winemaker Tasting" on most Sundays led by owners Adam Suprenant and Laura Klahre, for which reservations are recommended; the site notes seating is outdoors with a picnic area, weather permitting, and that outside food is not allowed inside the tasting room. 1
Milkweed and honey side projects
Coffee Pot Cellars runs a program called "Merlot For Monarchs," which uses proceeds from Merlot sales to distribute milkweed seed packets in support of monarch butterfly habitat — one of several side projects, alongside Klahre's separate honey operation, that the tasting room folds into a visit. 1
