Location

Fire Island Vines operates at 17 East Main Street, Bay Shore, NY, on the South Shore rather than either fork — a mainland tasting room and small-plates spot rather than an estate vineyard. 1

Food pairing focus

Alongside wine, beer, cider and hard seltzer, the venue serves Mediterranean-style spreads such as hummus, tirokafteri and tzatziki, and is also known for wood-fired pizza, positioning it closer to a wine bar with a kitchen than a traditional tasting room. 1

Booking private events

The winery markets itself directly as an events venue for celebrations and parties, with a phone line — 631-647-9010 — listed specifically for booking group functions. 2

Origins as a wine-tour business

Fire Island Vines grew out of owner Angelo Crisci's wine-tour company, First Glass Wine Tours, which he launched in 2013 to run trips to North and South Fork vineyards; the Bay Shore location, opened in February 2020, was his family's first storefront and was designed to bring the East End tasting experience closer to home for South Shore visitors. 3

House wines and tap list

Crisci partnered with North Fork's Laurel Lake Vineyards to produce a set of wines sold only at the Bay Shore location under the Fire Island Vines label, including a pinot grigio, pinot noir, sauvignon, rosé and riesling; the space also pours other Long Island and New York State wines, beer and cider across roughly 14 to 20 tap lines. 4

The room itself

The 2,400-square-foot space seats up to about 75 people across benches, tabletops and a 25-foot bar, and is decorated with beadboard walls, exposed studs and beach-bungalow-style artwork; a separate street-facing nook called FIV Cafe and Market offers self-serve coffee, snacks and grab-and-go sandwiches. 5
