Osprey's Dominion Vineyards
Osprey’s Dominion Vineyards is an active, family-friendly winery set in a beautiful, natural environment.
Founded in 1983 and now farming roughly 90 acres on Main Road in Peconic, Osprey's Dominion is one of the larger family-friendly tasting rooms on the North Fork — and one of the longest-tenured. Veteran winemaker Adam Suprenant (who also runs Coffee Pot Cellars) crafts more than 20 different wines under the Osprey's label, spanning estate Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Riesling, a long-running Flight sparkling, and a rotating cast of dessert and fortified bottlings. The portfolio is intentionally broad so groups with mixed preferences can land somewhere happy, and the spacious lawn — with picnic grounds, an all-weather pool table, and seasonal lawn games — is built for that. Bring a group of six or more and you'll appreciate how few East End wineries are still designed for actual hangouts; reservations are required for parties over six.
Award-winning wines
Osprey's is my recommendation for groups that include non-wine-drinkers. Suprenant's reserve Merlot is genuinely serious, the lawn fits a crowd without feeling crammed, and the price-per-pour is among the friendliest on the trail.

Origins
Osprey's Dominion traces back to Bud Koehler, a Farmingdale native who left a construction career in 1983 and, with his wife and eleven children, bought a 24-acre plot in Peconic to plant grapes. He initially sold fruit to neighboring wineries before purchasing an additional 16 acres in Mattituck in the late 1980s and, with partner Bill Tyree, 50 more acres at the current Peconic site, where the winery bottled its first vintage in 1991 and converted a restored farmhouse into its tasting room.
The wine list and second label
The current lineup runs from Semi-Dry Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, and an unwooded Chardonnay through Rosé, a Blanc de Noir, and reds including Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenere, Malbec, and a Petit Verdot, alongside a Cabernet Franc–Merlot Meritage Flight blend and a spiced dessert wine. A 2012-launched second label, Richmond Creek, complements the Osprey's range with more everyday bottlings such as a Red Blend Table Wine and Merlot. The tasting room permits outside picnic lunches, a policy many neighboring wineries have dropped, and hosts live music on weekends through the season.
