Long Island Wine Country

LI Wine Guide

Independent editorial guidance for Long Island wineries, bottles, tours, hotels and restaurants across the North Fork and Hamptons.

What this guide covers

Long Island is a maritime wine region of roughly sixty producers split between the North Fork — a farm peninsula between Long Island Sound and Peconic Bay — and the Hamptons on the South Fork. We report on the producers, taste the wines, and write the practical side of a visit: which tasting rooms suit which kind of day, how long the drives really take, where to eat between stops, and where to sleep so you are not driving after a tasting.

Everything here is written and edited by Hollis Cooper, a forty-year North Fork local. Our reporting rules, verification cadence and funding are set out in the editorial standards and affiliate disclosure.

Long Island's grapes

The climate here is cool and maritime, which favours restrained, food-friendly wine rather than big ripe reds. Merlot remains the flagship, cabernet franc is the region's most interesting red value, and sauvignon blanc, chardonnay, dry rosé and traditional-method sparkling wine carry the whites. Vintage variation is real, so the year on the label matters more here than in warmer regions.

How we work

We visit, we say what we tasted, and we date what we verify. Details that change — hours, tasting fees, reservation policies — always link to the operator's own page, and directory entries are re-checked on a rolling schedule. Errors get corrected and logged on the corrections page.
